Description
What type of wine is it
Carignano del Sulcis Superiore Terre Brune di Santadi is a red wine from the lower Sulcis region in Sardinia, made from Carignano del Sulcis with the contribution of Bovaleddu. It ferments in stainless steel at a controlled temperature and matures in a mix of barriques and French oak barrels, followed by bottle aging. The result is a structured profile, offering well-integrated fruit and spice and a rich, harmonious sip.
Where does it come from
It originates from the vineyards of lower Sulcis in Sardinia, a coastal area in the southwest of the island renowned for the cultivation of Carignano. This origin gives the wine color intensity and a presence of ripe fruit accompanied by spicy nuances. The connection with the territory is also reflected in the choice of wood maturation and subsequent bottle aging before release.
How it's made
The grapes are hand-picked between the second half of September and the first half of October. Fermentation lasts about 15 days in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature. Once fermentation is complete, the wine matures for up to 16–18 months in barriques and French oak barrels, and then ages for another 12 months in bottle before being released on the market.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it shows an intense ruby red color with garnet reflections. The nose is fruity, recalling plum and blueberry, followed by notes of bay leaf and juniper, and shades of tobacco and chocolate. On the palate, it is rich, warm, and harmonious, with a structure that reflects the wood aging and a persistence supported by balance and fullness.
Food pairing
It pairs naturally with roasts and game dishes, where its structure complements flavorful meats. It is also recommended with aged cheeses, thanks to its aromatic profile and wide palate feel. In Italian cuisine, it shines with preparations such as roast lamb and wild boar dishes.
When to serve it
It is ideal for lunches and dinners where intensity and structure are sought, especially alongside roasts, game, and aged cheeses. Maturation in wood and bottle aging make it enjoyable when you want a red with well-defined aromas and a harmonious sip. It suits convivial occasions and tables with flavorful dishes, without requiring any mandatory waiting time.
