Description
Produced in Spain by the Menade winery, the white wine La Misión is made from Verdeja grapes, an ancient local clone of Verdejo, sourced from pre-phylloxera vines planted in 1890. It represents the most authentic expression of the area, with a profile that combines tradition and varietal identity.
The grapes are hand-harvested and pressed in whole bunches. Alcoholic fermentation starts spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks, followed by about one year of aging in various containers: French oak barrels, large vats, and amphorae containing clay sourced from the winery's own vineyards. The wine is then aged in the historic cellar before bottling.
Lemon yellow in color, it releases aromas of white flowers, citrus peel, fennel, and herbaceous notes. On the palate it is linear and savory, with pronounced acidity and hints of mineral flint; the finish is complex and persistent, a sign of a wine with great ageing potential.
Excellent with dishes based on aromatic vegetables, grilled fish, or delicate white meats.
