Description

What type of wine is it

Grande Cuvée by Krug is the Brut Champagne resulting from the blending of numerous base wines from different parcels of Champagne. Its profile is distinguished by a creamy texture and well-integrated freshness. The cuvée is the result of a broad selection of vintage and reserve wines, which add complexity and depth. This is an elegant and persistent Champagne, suitable both as an aperitif and at the table.

Where does it come from

This Champagne comes from the Champagne region, in the North-East of France. Grapes and base wines are selected from different areas and historic villages, with the aim of integrating different characteristics to achieve balance and depth. The multi-parcel approach underpins the maison’s style and ensures consistency over time.

How is it made

Production involves the separate vinification of numerous base wines, followed by the art of blending. Krug uses wines from different vintages and a significant share of reserve wines that provide complexity and personality. The Brut style dosage maintains energy and persistence. The wine is produced using the Traditional Method, characteristic of Champagne.

Tasting notes

It displays an intense golden yellow color with fine and persistent perlage. On the nose it offers layered aromas of toasted bread, brioche, ripe stone fruits, verbena, and vanilla custard cream, with a hint of rum-soaked baba. The palate is rich and creamy, supported by vibrant freshness. Notes of syrupy peach, ripe citrus, and toasted pine nuts emerge, with a clean lemon finish. The overall impression is one of structure, precision, and a long aromatic persistence.

Food pairing

The versatility of this Champagne makes it suitable both as an aperitif and for complex dishes. It pairs well with aged Parmigiano, Jabugo ham, and seafood such as oysters, enhancing the sapidity and tension on the palate. Also excellent with buttered asparagus and sautéed garlic. It stands up well to white meats in sauce and preparations with butter and citrus, and enhances toasty notes and persistence.

When to serve it

This Champagne is recommended for convivial moments or to accompany a full meal, thanks to its energy, depth, and definition. It offers immediate pleasure for its precision and creaminess. The optimal consumption depends on your preference between freshness and complexity.
