Description

What kind of wine it is

Chianti Classico Villa Antinori Riserva by Antinori is a red wine made mainly from Sangiovese and Cabernet grapes. Its vinification involves alcoholic fermentation followed by maceration on the skins, then completes malolactic fermentation before aging in wood. The style is balanced and structured, characterized by pleasant acidity, soft tannins, and an aromatic profile defined by notes of red fruit and delicate spices.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from the Chianti Classico area, a region deeply tied to the history of the Antinori family. The Villa Antinori Riserva label represents the identity of this area, renowned for producing red wines with a well-defined profile. The area’s soil and climate conditions favor consistent grape ripening and provide the necessary structure to support a period of wood aging, enhancing the complexity typical of the Riserva type.

How it is produced

The grapes are harvested by hand between the end of September and the beginning of October, followed by destemming and gentle crushing. The process continues with rapid alcoholic fermentation and a maceration of around twelve days, useful for extracting color and phenolic compounds. After malolactic fermentation, the final blend is created and aged in oak barrels and first- and second-use barriques, thus completing its journey before bottling.

Tasting notes

In the glass, it displays an intense, deep ruby red color. The aromatic profile opens with clear notes of ripe red fruits, highlighting distinct hints of currant, raspberry, and cherry, enriched with light touches of cinnamon and candied fruit. On the palate, it is harmonious and round, balanced by fresh acidity that makes it smooth and steady. The soft tannins guide the sip towards a persistent, clean finish with consistent flavors.

Pairings

Its tannic structure and balanced acidity make it an excellent match for red meat dishes and for flavorful recipes with mushrooms. It also pairs successfully with selections of aged cheeses, as its persistence supports each bite. At the table, it enhances meat-based preparations from Italian cuisine and stands out particularly with classic dishes such as bistecca alla fiorentina, where the wine’s fruity profile perfectly balances the intensity of the recipe.

When to serve it

This red wine is the right label to accompany lunches and dinners featuring boldly flavored ingredients, as it offers a structured and balanced sip. The meticulous processing and time in barrels give it versatility for immediate consumption or for further cellar aging to integrate its aromatic nuances. It is a solid choice for enhancing genuine convivial occasions or for accompanying substantial dishes.
