Description
What kind of wine is it
Maggiolo by Lamole di Lamole is a red Chianti Classico, soft and flavorful, made from Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes. The name recalls the iris, a flower typical of the Lamole area that dots the fields in May. The result is a wine with a sunny character, offering enveloping sensations and a sweet, caressing sip.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from Lamole, in the municipality of Greve in Chianti, in the province of Florence. The vineyards lie between 420 and 655 meters above sea level, on soils of galestro sandstone and Tuscan Macigno, interspersed with alberese. The altitude and the nature of the soil give the wine freshness and character.
How it is produced
The grapes are destemmed and then pass over the optical sorter, which separates the best berries. The must ferments with the skins in stainless-steel tanks, where the wine remains until spring. Maturation follows in oak casks for the Sangiovese and in barriques for Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. After blending the wine is bottled and further ages in bottle.
Tasting notes
The color is a bright ruby red. The bouquet is floral, with cyclamen and violet, accompanied by fruity sensations of mulberry, blackberry and blueberry and hints of sweet spices and cocoa. The palate combines freshness and softness, with smooth, flavorful tannins and well-judged acidity. The finish is aromatic and deep, with memories of black-berried fruit and balsamic herbs.
Food pairing
It pairs well with dishes featuring spices or aromatic herbs and with soups of various kinds, from those with chickpeas, grass peas and lentils to those simply dressed with extra-virgin olive oil. It’s worth trying with meat dishes from Asian or South American cuisines.
When to serve
It’s a red for everyday lunches and dinners, when you want a fresh, easy-drinking Chianti Classico. It has an aging potential of five or six years, so you can drink it now or keep it for a few more years.
