What kind of wine is it
Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru de La Pousse d’Or is a Burgundy red wine made entirely from Pinot Noir grapes. This wine stands at the top of the winery’s quality range and originates from a historic cru, offering a structured and complex style. The winemaking process aims to preserve the essence of the fruit and utilizes skilful maturation. Thanks to its ripe tannic structure, this great red is designed to evolve over time.
Where it comes from
This wine is produced from the vineyards of the Bressandes climat, within the Corton Grand Cru appellation in Burgundy. The soil stands out for its classic limestone and clay matrix, which are essential for defining the wine’s structure. The vocation of the La Pousse d’Or vineyards favors a red of remarkable finesse. The balance of the soil ensures substantial material support and allows for excellent aging potential, respecting the nature of the terroir.
How it’s made
The Pinot Noir grapes are harvested by hand from 30 to 50-year-old vines, following an approach close to organic farming. Natural methods are used in vinification, with fermentation started by indigenous yeasts. Aging takes place in French oak barrels for 18 months, with 30% new oak employed. This careful management allows for the integration of spicy notes without overpowering the identity of the cru and the varietal expression.
Tasting notes
In the glass, the wine shows an intense red color, indicating excellent extractive concentration. The nose reveals a deep bouquet, characterized by dark berries and elegant boisée nuances. On the palate, there is great finesse, supported by rich and ripe tannins leading to a precise finish. The robust yet balanced structure ensures a harmonious tasting experience, with a clear aromatic definition.
Food pairings
This red pairs well with rich and structured dishes, where its tannic structure matches the succulence of the food. It’s a perfect partner for elaborate red meats, game, and aged cheeses. As a tribute to its origins, the wine pairs harmoniously with French cuisine, highlighting specialties such as boeuf bourguignon or coq au vin, where the oak notes blend with the deep flavors of slow-cooked sauces.
When to serve it
An ideal choice for special occasions and important convivial moments, designed to enhance a refined table. The presence of elegant tannins makes it perfect either for long-term cellaring or for short-term enjoyment. To appreciate its complexity, adequate aeration before serving is recommended. When enjoyed with game dishes, the wine expresses the full depth of Burgundy’s great reds.
