Produced from the same vineyards and grapes as Bolgheri, but unlike Bolgheri, it is aged in stainless steel instead of wood. The result is a wine that is easy to drink and highly versatile, perfect for summer barbecues.

Description

What kind of wine it is

Costa Toscana Rosso by Campo al Faro is a red wine made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. Fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks preserves varietal freshness and enhances the fruity component. Eight months of aging in steel contribute to an intense aromatic profile with well-integrated tannins, providing a full structure suitable for short- to medium-term evolution.

Where it comes from

This wine is born in Castagneto Carducci, in the heart of the Tuscan Coast, where the Mediterranean climate and sea breezes help grapes ripen. The calcareous and clayey soils, with some sand, ensure good drainage and deep root development. The area boasts a long winegrowing tradition and adopts modern soil management techniques.

How it’s produced

The grapes are hand-harvested in September, with careful cluster selection. After destemming, the grapes ferment separately in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, preserving freshness and varietal aromas. Maceration is kept light, and the wine is aged for eight months in steel, with no use of barriques, to highlight the primary fruitiness and character of the varieties.

Tasting notes

In the glass, it shows an intense ruby color with violet hues. The nose reveals aromas of ripe red fruit like cherry and raspberry, with subtle vegetal notes and a hint of spice. On the palate, it is full and savory, with soft tannins and a pleasantly persistent fruity finish that leaves the palate clean.

Food pairings

This red pairs well with meat ragù pasta dishes, lasagna, and stuffed pasta. In Tuscan cuisine, it accompanies dishes like peposo all’imprunetina and grilled Florentine steak. It’s also suitable for braised beef and roast lamb, while semi-aged cheeses such as pecorino toscano and caciotta enhance its savoriness.

When to serve it

It is recommended to serve this wine at 16-18°C. Thanks to its structure and the balance between freshness and tannins, it can be enjoyed after a short period in bottle and retains excellent qualities even after a few years. It is suitable for both informal and formal occasions and is enjoyable even when young.
