Produced with the same vineyards and grapes as Bolgheri, but differently from Bolgheri it matures in steel rather than wood. The result is a highly drinkable and versatile wine, perfect to accompany summer barbecues.

Description

What kind of wine it is

Costa Toscana Rosso by Campo al Faro is a red wine made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. Fermentation in temperature-controlled steel tanks preserves varietal freshness and enhances the fruity component. Eight months of maturation in steel contributes to an intense aromatic profile and well-integrated tannins, offering a full structure suited to short- or medium-term evolution.

Where it comes from

This wine originates in Castagneto Carducci, in the heart of the Costa Toscana, where the Mediterranean climate and sea breeze aid grape ripening. The calcareous and clayey soils, with sand present, ensure good drainage and the development of deep roots. The area boasts a long winemaking tradition and employs modern soil management techniques.

How it is produced

The grapes are hand-harvested in September with careful bunch selection. After destemming, the grapes ferment separately in steel tanks at controlled temperatures, thus preserving freshness and varietal aromas. Maceration is kept light, and the wine matures for eight months in steel, without barriques, to highlight the primary fruitiness and character of the varieties.

Tasting notes

It displays an intense ruby color with violet highlights. On the nose, aromas of ripe red fruit such as cherry and raspberry stand out, with delicate vegetal notes and a hint of spice. On the palate it is full-bodied and savory, with soft tannins and a persistent fruity finish that leaves the mouth clean.

Food pairings

This red wine pairs well with pasta dishes in meat ragù, lasagna and filled pasta. In the Tuscan cuisine, it complements dishes like "peposo all’imprunetina" and grilled Florentine steak. It also works well with braised beef and roast lamb, while semi-mature cheeses such as Tuscan pecorino and caciotta enhance its savoriness.

When to serve it

It is recommended to serve this wine at 16–18°C. Thanks to its structure and the balance between freshness and tannins, it can be enjoyed after a short bottle aging and retains its qualities for several years. It is suitable for both informal and formal occasions and is enjoyable even when young.
