Description

What kind of wine it is

Coteaux Champenois Ambonnay by Marguet is a refined still white wine made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes. This label is an authentic and unique expression of its region and stands out for its structured and complex style, supported by a savory backbone and an elegant profile. Its character is defined by extended aging on the lees and careful maturation in wood, features that make it a perfect example of the Coteaux Champenois appellation.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from the Les Beurys and Les Crayères plots, located in the municipality of Ambonnay, at the heart of the renowned Montagne de Reims. The pronounced chalkiness of the calcareous-rich soils gives the wine a taut and saline palate, typical of this exceptional terroir. Marguet follows a strict biodynamic approach both in the vineyard and in the cellar, working plot by plot to preserve the sense of place and enhance expressive precision without filters.

How it is produced

After manual harvesting, the Chardonnay undergoes direct pressing to obtain a clean must, thus preserving the finesse of the raw material. Fermentation takes place in barrique, followed by 19 months on the lees, a crucial phase defining the wine's mouthfeel and aromatic complexity. Aging then continues in oak barrels for about 18 months, a process that consolidates the structure and ensures the wood is perfectly integrated.

Tasting notes

In the glass, it shows a straw yellow color, introducing an aromatic bouquet dominated by delicate floral notes of apple blossom and hints of white peach. On the palate, it is powerful and rich and offers fruity flavors enriched by nuances of orange oil and a deep mineral chalkiness. The finish is long and complex, with a clear persistence that echoes the characteristics of its origin’s soils.

Food pairings

Thanks to its structure and lively sapidity, this white pairs beautifully with fish and shellfish dishes, as it cleanses the palate and complements delicate textures. It is ideal with grilled or steamed preparations that let the main ingredient shine, as well as recipes highlighted by citrus notes. A natural pairing is the classic plateau de fruits de mer, where the wine’s lasting taste enhances the saltiness of the food.

When to serve

This still white is the ideal choice when looking for a wine with character, able to blend energy and sensory depth. Serve it chilled to emphasize the floral profile and vivid sapidity, allowing the subtle notes from its oak aging to emerge gradually in the glass. Although enjoyable straight away, its structure allows for positive development over time and satisfaction even after further cellaring.
