Description
What kind of wine is it
The Pinot Grigio from Tenuta Villanova is a dry white wine, made exclusively from Pinot Grigio grapes. It shows a fresh, full character, with a supple, fragrant palate that makes it a versatile white for the everyday table.
Where it comes from
It originates in the Isonzo area, in Friuli, on stony and alluvial soils with excellent drainage, formed by river deposits. The estate is based in Villanova di Farra, in the province of Gorizia, and includes an architectural complex dating back to 1499. The Grossi family has been making wine in the Isonzo and Collio Goriziano since the 1930s, and this Pinot Grigio has been produced since 1975.
How it is made
The Pinot Grigio grapes, trained to Guyot, are picked by hand. It is vinified in stainless steel and matures in the same material for 4 months on the lees, with batonnage. This work on the fine lees lends roundness to the palate and keeps the fruit’s freshness bright.
Tasting notes
In the glass it shows an intense straw yellow with greenish highlights. On the nose emerges a bouquet of white and yellow flowers. The palate is supple, full and fragrant, with moderate length.
What to pair it with
It pairs well with cold cuts and mild cheeses, as well as delicate first courses. It is particularly successful with crostini topped with creamed salt cod.
When to serve it
It’s a white suited to the aperitif and to light meals, from starters of cured meats and cheeses to delicate first courses. It shows best in the first years after the harvest, with 2–4 years in bottle depending on storage conditions.
