Description

What kind of wine it is

Gattinara Riserva from Travaglini is a structured red wine originating in northern Piedmont from Nebbiolo grapes. Controlled fermentation and extended aging in wood offer great complexity. In the glass, it reveals marked freshness and a well-defined tannic texture, making it ideal for pairing with intensely flavored dishes.

Where it comes from

This wine comes from vineyards grown in the municipality of Gattinara, in the province of Vercelli, located in the northern part of Piedmont. The area has a longstanding tradition of Nebbiolo cultivation. The region's unique soil and climate conditions help define a distinctive, mineral profile, ensuring a natural propensity for aging.

How it is produced

Nebbiolo grape clusters are hand-picked during the first ten days of October. The process continues with fermentation in stainless steel at controlled temperature for fifteen days. Maturation then lasts four years, three of which are spent in Slavonian oak barrels and in smaller wooden casks. The journey ends with an additional rest of eight months in the bottle.

Tasting notes

In the glass, it displays a deep garnet red color. The bouquet reveals delicate spicy notes and mineral hints, intertwined with aromas of cherry, rose, and licorice. The palate is pleasantly tannic, driven by vibrant freshness and a very persistent finish, delivering a dry and precise sip.

Food pairings

This red wine enhances meat-based dishes, creating a balance between its tannic structure and the food. Ideal pairings include game and aged cheeses, which can balance the wine's rich persistence. It's also perfect with traditional braised meats, offering a rewarding and structured tasting experience.

When to serve

Its structure makes it ideal for a rich meal, perfect for pairing with hearty dishes. Thanks to barrel aging and subsequent bottle resting, it offers notable longevity. It can be enjoyed immediately or cellared to allow the aromatic profile and tannins to evolve and integrate, resulting in a profound tasting experience.
