Description
What kind of wine is it
Ornello di Rocca di Frassinello is a red wine from the Maremma Toscana made from a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah. Produced by Rocca di Frassinello, it stands out for its structured and complex style, with a full body and vibrant elegance. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, followed by malolactic fermentation and aging for six months in barrels (half of which are new), and a further six months in the bottle. This cellar process creates a mature and harmonious profile, ideal for those seeking an authentic Tuscan red.
Where does it come from
The vineyards of Rocca di Frassinello are located in Gavorrano, in the province of Grosseto. The Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and mild winters, favors grape ripening, while temperature fluctuations help maintain good acidity.
How is it made
The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand between late August and mid-September, and only the best bunches are selected. After destemming, the grapes ferment in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, with skin maceration to extract color and tannins. After malolactic fermentation, the wine ages for six months in barrels (half new), then continues for another six months in bottle to achieve balance and harmony.
Tasting notes
Ornello appears an intense ruby red in the glass. The bouquet is complex, with balsamic, roasted coffee, and fruity notes. On the palate, it is silky and enveloping, with a solid structure supported by smooth tannins and balanced acidity. The finish is persistent and harmonious.
Food pairing
Ornello di Rocca di Frassinello pairs well with red meats, roasts, braises, cured meats, and medium-aged cheeses. Its structure and rounded tannins enhance robust and flavorful dishes.
When to serve it
This wine gives its best after a short period in the bottle and retains good aging potential for 2 to 6 years. The robust tannins and balanced acidity make it suitable for both young consumption and further development. It is recommended to uncork the bottle at least an hour beforehand and serve at 18-20 °C to fully appreciate its aromatic complexity and structure.
