Description
What kind of wine is it
Rosso Riserva Tenuta Belguardo by Mazzei is a red wine from Maremma Toscana made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The profile is full and structured, with an enveloping palate and notable persistence, shaped by temperature-controlled fermentation and extended aging in wood.
Where does it come from
It originates from Tenuta Belguardo, located on the hills of Maremma Toscana between Grosseto and Montiano, just a few kilometers from the sea. Being produced from a single estate clearly defines the wine’s identity and its connection to the southern Tuscan coast.
How is it produced
The grapes are hand-harvested, with Cabernet Franc picked from mid-September and Cabernet Sauvignon starting from October 6th. Fermentation and maceration last 16 days at a controlled temperature of 28–30 °C. This is followed by 18 months of aging in mostly new French oak barriques, which contributes to structure and complexity.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it shows good intensity as a red. On the nose, black spices stand out. The palate entry is enveloping, with a complex flavor that develops progressively and ends with a long persistence.
Food pairings
It pairs naturally with cured meats and semi-aged cheeses, where its structure and consistent palate enhance the savory notes. It is recommended with red meats and steaks, and it also suits spiced dishes, where the black spice notes remain clear.
When to serve it
It is perfect for occasions at the table where you seek intensity and steady persistence, especially with red meats, steaks, and semi-aged cheeses. Its structure also makes it interesting for spicy main courses, when you want a red with an enveloping and defined character for the whole meal.
