Description
The Toscana Siepi di Mazzei was born in the Castello di Fonterutoli estate, located in the province of Siena, on the hills overlooking the Val d'Elsa, in the heart of the Chianti Classico
It is produced with Sangiovese and Merlot grapes in the same percentage, cultivated in the 6 hectares of hedges, the best company vineyard. Merlot grapes are harvested by hand in early September, while Sangiovese grapes at the end of the month. Merlot undergoes a maceration and fermentation for a period of 14 days, Sangiovese for 16 days, both at a controlled temperature of 28-30 ° C. Subsequently, the wine is aged in oak barrels, 70% new, for 16-18 months, before being bottled.
It is a monumental wine, defined by Gambero Rosso "one of the 50 wines that have changed Italy". The nose opens with rich hints of dark chocolate, while on the palate it is very well structured, with a complex and extraordinarily long aftertaste.
Ideal to accompany rich and structured dishes, it goes very well with stews and game. Perfect with blue cheeses, such as Gorgonzola and Roquefort.
