Description
What kind of wine is it
Rouchet di Scarpa is a red wine from Monferrato, made from pure Ruchè grapes, grown in Piedmont on the hills of Nizza Monferrato. It is expressed in a traditional style, recognizable for its varietal spiciness and an enveloping yet well-structured palate. The maturation involves 12 months in steel and 12 months in bottle, offering a balanced and precise profile.
Where does it come from
It originates in Monferrato, in the province of Asti, with grapes sourced from the Poderi Bricchi vineyards, between Castel Rocchero and Acqui Terme. The vineyards are situated between 350 and 400 meters above sea level, on predominantly clay soils with low sand content, conditions that provide a full texture and a clear varietal imprint.
How is it produced
Scarpa defines its philosophy with sustainable agriculture, traditional-style winemaking, and long bottle aging. The Ruchè grapes are vinified according to a traditional approach; the wine rests 12 months in steel tanks and continues with 12 months of bottle aging before being released on the market, thus achieving a well-settled flavor profile.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it presents a lively ruby red color. The nose reveals aromas of red flowers and violet, accompanied by delicate spicy notes. On the palate, the sip is enveloping and consistent with the nose, with a harmonious progression and a finish where the distinctive Ruchè spice remains clearly recognizable.
Food pairings
It naturally accompanies red meats and braised game at the table, where its roundness and spiciness support the succulence and intensity. It also pairs well with aged and blue cheeses, thanks to an aromatic profile that stands up to savory and persistent flavors. It is ideal when the menu features rich and structured dishes.
When to serve it
This is a red wine suited for lunches and dinners where a traditionally styled Monferrato is desired, already enjoyable in its balanced phase after 12 months in steel and 12 months in bottle. It is best appreciated during cooler seasons and at convivial occasions involving meats, game, or robust cheeses. Before serving, it benefits from adequate opening, in order to fully reveal its floral and spicy character.
