Description
What kind of wine it is
Monica di Sardegna Superiore Iselis from Argiolas is a red wine made exclusively from Monica grapes. It stands out for its structured and complex style, featuring a profile that combines elegance and fullness. Vinification in steel tanks and aging in barriques develop a rich aromatic texture; the aging potential is deduced from the 12 months spent in barrique and 6 months in bottle.
Where it comes from
Produced at the Iselis estate in Serdiana, province of Cagliari. The area is historically suited to growing the native Monica grape variety.
How it is made
The Monica grapes are hand-harvested and selected in small crates to preserve the greatest integrity of the fruit. Fermentation takes place in steel with maceration on the skins for 10–12 days at a controlled temperature. After malolactic fermentation in vitrified cement tanks, the wine matures for 12 months in barriques and then rests 6 months in bottle.
Tasting notes
To the eye, it shows an intense ruby red color with garnet highlights. The nose offers aromas of black cherry and plum, enriched by hints of vanilla and cinnamon derived from barrique aging. On the palate, it is smooth and balanced, with ripe red fruit, integrated spices, and sweet tannins leading to a persistent finish.
Food pairings
Monica di Sardegna Superiore Iselis pairs well with pasta with savory sauces and seafood soups. It goes perfectly with stewed lamb and grilled red meats. Semi-aged cheeses, such as pecorino, enhance its fruity and spicy notes.
When to serve it
Thanks to its structure and barrique aging, this wine can be enjoyed both young and after a few years of bottle aging, when greater balance and complexity of secondary aromas emerge.
