Description

Opus One is a legendary wine, born from the special collaboration between two "eminences" of the New and Old wine world: Robert Mondavi, pioneer of Californian wine, and Baron Philippe de Rothschild, soul of the famous Château Mouton Rothschild. It is said that in the course of the collaboration they manifested ideas at the antipodes on the creation of this wine, as evidenced by the two faces that look in opposite directions depicted on the label, but in the end they managed to fulfill the expectations expected even for the commonality of these two big names, giving birth to an extraordinary Bordeaux cut of Napa Valley.

It is mainly produced with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec grapes, rigorously harvested by hand in small boxes in the coolest hours of the night. The whole process is organized according to the principle of gravity: the carefully selected grapes are conveyed by fall to the stainless steel tanks located on the lower floor, variety by variety, vineyard by vineyard. At the end of the fermentation, the wine always proceeds by gravity downstairs where the aging takes place, for 18 months in French oak barriques and then in the bottle where it remains to perfect its organoleptic characteristics.

Opus One is cloaked in an intense and deep purple color that tends to ink black. Delicate floral scents emerge from the glass, accompanied by fruity aromas of cherry, blueberry and black currant, with a final nuance of anise and graphite. On the palate it brings as a gift the typical elegance of Bordeaux wines, with a creamy attack that leads to a velvety and structured finish, of great balance, with fine-grained tannins and a final of vibrant freshness.

It goes well with important dishes based on roasted red meats and lamb.

Opus One is a clear reference to the compositional musical activity, in fact this wine constitutes the "first work" of the Mondavi-Rothschild wine duo, on which efforts, passion and ingenuity have been invested: a true masterpiece!
