Description
What kind of wine is it
The Pommard Premier Cru Clos des Epeneaux Monopole from Comte Armand is a red wine made from Pinot Noir in the Pommard denomination. It has a concentrated and precise character, featuring a well-controlled power and a spicy note typical of its region. The production process includes a long maturation in wood, which carefully defines the structure and finesse of this renowned Premier Cru and perfectly expresses the identity of Burgundy.
Where it comes from
It originates in Pommard, in the Côte de Beaune, within one of the largest monopole parcels located between the celebrated areas of Grands Epeneaux and Petits Epeneaux. The soil boasts a distinctive composition that clearly sets it apart from neighboring zones and helps shape a highly recognizable profile. The vineyard’s unique microclimate promotes complete ripening of the grapes to elegantly enhance the territorial characteristics through a balanced interplay of aromatic intensity and freshness.
How it is produced
Production begins with a manual harvest, followed by complete destemming of the grapes. After a pre-fermentative maceration at low temperature, spontaneous fermentation takes place for up to ten days, followed by an additional phase of skin contact. The wine then matures for twenty-two months in partially new oak barrels, a key step to integrate the tannic texture and enrich the complexity without altering aromatic clarity.
Tasting notes
It displays a deep ruby red color and excellent depth. The bouquet is intense, dominated by notes of raspberry and cherry, accompanied by elegant nuances of peony and delicate toasted notes from the wood. On the palate it is concentrated and medium-bodied, featuring well-integrated tannins and a long, savoury finish that precisely reflects the fruity sensations perceived on the nose.
Pairings
This French red wine pairs naturally with game dishes and red meats, where its structure and tannins find perfect harmony. It integrates seamlessly with robust preparations such as roast meats and slow-cooked stews, enhancing the savory component of each glass. The spicy accents and red fruit notes elevate rich sauces, keeping the tasting experience balanced and elegant from start to finish.
When to serve
It’s the ideal choice for structured lunches and dinners that require a red wine capable of showcasing the depth and character of its denomination. Its concentrated style makes it perfect for dedicated tastings, where the slow evolution in the glass can be fully appreciated. Thanks to careful maturation and a firm tannic structure, it is exceptionally suited to be savored thoughtfully, as it eloquently combines the power and elegance that define it.
