Description
Port Charlotte is a peated single malt whisky originating from the island of Islay, distilled, matured and bottled exclusively on site. Born from a project that combines tradition and innovation, it represents the most authentic identity of the island: a deep, artisanal distillate made by a community of people who dedicate themselves to every stage of its creation. The production philosophy pays great attention to territoriality and the maritime imprint that characterizes the spirit of Islay.
This whisky is made with 100% Scottish barley from the Inverness-shire area and has a phenol level of 40 ppm, which defines its intensely peaty character. Maturation occurs in three types of casks: 65% in first-fill American whiskey barrels, 10% in second-fill American whiskey barrels, and 25% in second-fill French wine casks. The distillate is bottled with Islay spring water, is non-chill-filtered, and contains no added coloring.
On the nose, it opens with marine and ozone notes, followed by hints of dry smoke and peat ash, golden caramel, vanilla, sweet spices like cloves and nutmeg, and a citrus touch of lemon and clementine. On the palate, it is smooth and balanced: the sweetness of the cask extract intertwines with smoke, coconut, lemon honey, and smoked oysters. The finish is long and layered, with malty hints, ripe fruits such as mango and apricot, and a persistent peaty and briny aftertaste typical of Port Charlotte.
Ideal to enjoy neat at the end of a meal or in the company of a good cigar.
