Description

What type of wine is it

Mirea Primitivo di Manduria by Masseria Borgo dei Trulli is a Puglian red wine made exclusively from Primitivo grapes. The name, of Latin origin, means 'to admire'. It is a highly concentrated red, round and full-bodied, rich and well balanced, with soft, elegant tannins. By its nature, it belongs among contemplative wines.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from the estate’s vineyards in Maruggio, in the province of Taranto, at the heart of the Primitivo di Manduria area. The vines are trained as alberello pugliese, with an average age of 60 years and very low yields. The grapes are carefully selected and entirely hand-harvested.

How it is made

Harvest is late, in mid-September, when the grapes are overripe and have already begun a natural drying on the vine. After destemming, the grapes are not crushed, so they remain intact and optimize color extraction. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at controlled temperature, with frequent pump-overs and délestage to extract delicate aromas and supple tannins. After malolactic fermentation, the wine ages for ten months in French oak barriques, first and second fill.

Tasting notes

It shows a deep red hue. Aromas of dried fruit, exotic spices, white pepper and dark chocolate, with sandalwood and figs. On the palate it is substantial and intense, round and full-bodied, with complex, enveloping layers of soft tannins, and notes of vanilla, plums, raisins, coffee and honey. The finish is very long, persistent and full, with a touch of sweetness from the time in oak.

Food pairings

It shows best enjoyed on its own, as a contemplative wine. Thanks to its richness and structure, it also pairs well with aged and blue cheeses, braised red meats and dark chocolate.

When to serve it

It is a red for the end of the meal, for evenings when you want to treat yourself to a glass to savor slowly. It is produced only in the best vintages, in limited quantities, and thanks to its structure it can also be cellared for a few years.
