Description
What kind of wine is it
Remírez de Ganuza's Blanco Reserva is a blend produced in Rioja with Viura, Malvasía, Garnacha Blanca and other native varieties. The style is fresh and enveloping, with an elegant profile and a creamy texture supported by marked acidity. Fermentation takes place in new French oak barriques and is followed by ageing which enhances its complexity. The result is a structured white, defined by ripe fruit, citrus notes and measured toasted nuances.
Where it comes from
It originates from the Rioja Alavesa region, with vineyards spread throughout the Sierra Cantabria in historic areas such as Labastida, San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Samaniego. The vines have an average age of sixty years and are found in a hilly context that ensures full ripening and firm acidity. The terrain offers a defined expression, balancing volume and freshness, while meticulous parcel selection adds variety and depth to the glass.
How it's made
Manual harvesting in small crates is followed by a careful selection of the bunches. Before fermentation, the grapes are cooled for twenty-four hours in refrigeration rooms to preserve their aromatic potential. Vinification uses the free-run must, extracted without pressing through a rotor tank, before fermenting in barriques. This is followed by eight months of maturation with a particular work on the fine lees which replaces the traditional bâtonnage by rotating the barrels.
Tasting notes
In the glass it displays a bright yellow colour with lively greenish reflections. The nose is complex and opens with clear hints of tropical fruit and citrus, then gives way to delicate toasted notes derived from time in wood. The entry on the palate is soft yet vibrant, with an oily sensation well balanced by the acid component. The flavour development is broad and closes with a persistent finish that reprises citrus aromas and a fine toastiness.
Food pairings
It pairs ideally with seafood recipes and shellfish, where freshness and volume balance the delicate textures. It is also suitable in combination with spiced preparations, as its solid structure supports intense aromas without overpowering them. Perfect with a classic seafood paella, it also goes very well with Italian traditional dishes, such as a classic grilled fish or oven-baked langoustines, capable of enhancing the ingredients with their savoury trail.
When to serve it
Suitable for convivial occasions, it represents the ideal choice when looking for a blend of vivacity and aromatic complexity. It enhances elegant seafood dishes and can also support rich dishes thanks to its balanced wood ageing. It is excellent for immediate consumption or patient ageing in the cellar, thus offering great longevity. When served well chilled, it shows a clear taste precision that highlights the harmony and length of the finish.
