Description
What type of wine is it?
Cune Reserva is a red wine from Cune, made from Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta, Graciano, and Mazuelo grapes. It is known for its structured and harmonious style, the result of long aging in American and French oak barrels. Fermentation in stainless steel at controlled temperatures and spontaneous malolactic fermentation create a complex profile, with a balance between body and freshness.
Where does it come from?
The grapes come from vineyards in the villages of Rodezno, Villalba, and Haro, in Rioja Alta, located between 500 and 600 meters above sea level. The clay-limestone soil and the continental climate with significant temperature variations favor minerality and structure. The area boasts a long winemaking tradition, reflected in the quality of the grapes and the wine's typical character.
How is it produced?
Manual harvesting in crates preserves the integrity of the bunches, which are then selected and destemmed at the winery. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel between 24 and 28 °C, with pump-overs, rack and return, and punching down to extract color and tannins. After a warm maceration and spontaneous malolactic fermentation, the wine ages for 18 months in French and American oak barrels, then rests in the bottle.
Tasting notes
The color is an intense garnet with cherry reflections. The nose reveals berries, blackberries, cherries, and wild strawberries, with hints of licorice, vanilla, cinnamon, and anise. The palate is smooth, with polished tannins, balanced acidity, and full body. The finish is persistent, with lingering fruit flavors and a hint of spice.
Food pairings
Cune Reserva pairs well with red meat such as roasts and grilled dishes, lamb stews, and braised meat. Its structure and acidity also make it suitable for aged cheeses like pecorino and manchego. Excellent with regional dishes such as bacalao al pil pil and international classics like coq au vin, it enhances both traditional and creative cuisine.
When to serve it
This wine has good aging potential and can be enjoyed young or after several years of cellar aging, when its complexity increases. Serve at 16-18 °C in large glasses and decant for at least half an hour to enhance aromas and structure. Ideal for friendly gatherings or important dinners.
