Description
What kind of wine is it?
Saia by Feudo Maccari is a red wine made from Nero d’Avola grapes. It stands out for its robust structure and complex profile, thanks to a long maceration on the skins and ageing in French barriques. The body is full, with well-present tannins and notes of ripe fruit. Freshness balances the concentration and offers a harmonious sip, with potential for evolution in the bottle.
Where does it come from?
This wine originates from Noto, in the southeast of Sicily.
How is it made?
After a careful selection of Nero d’Avola grapes, fermentation takes place in stainless steel with maceration on the skins for 20-25 days. The wine is aged for 10-14 months in French barriques, followed by a further 6 months of rest in the bottle. This process contributes to stability and a harmonious aromatic profile.
Tasting notes
To the eye, Saia shows an intense ruby colour. On the nose, scents of red fruits, spiced notes and ripe fruit are perceived. Depending on personal sensitivity, hints of vanilla from the ageing in barriques may emerge. On the palate, it displays a compact structure, integrated tannins and good persistence, with reminders of fruit and spices.
Food pairings
Saia pairs with mixed roasts, grilled red meats and stewed game. Among Sicilian dishes, it accompanies macco di fagioli or a flavoursome caponata. It is also well-suited to Italian recipes such as Florentine steak or wild boar ragù, which enhance the wine’s structure and spiced notes.
When to serve it
Thanks to its 10-14 months ageing in French barriques and 6 months in the bottle, Saia can be enjoyed now or after a maturation period, to appreciate its evolution and complexity.
