Description
What type of wine is it
Taurasi Rosamilia from Feudi di San Gregorio is a still red wine from Campania made from Aglianico and classified under the Taurasi denomination. It is part of the Feudi Studi line, a limited edition released yearly by selecting especially expressive vineyards. Vinification in steel and subsequent aging in wood and bottle shape a dry, complex style, with well-present tannins and a balance between fruit, spice, and balsamic notes.
Where does it come from
The grapes are sourced from Irpinia, a historic region of the Apennines in the province of Avellino, the reference area for Taurasi. Feudi di San Gregorio manages a vast estate of vineyards and, for Rosamilia, selects parcels that precisely express the character of Aglianico, focusing on aromatic definition and structure.
How it is produced
The grapes are crushed and destemmed, then macerated and fermented in steel at about 24°C for 10–20 days, with pump-overs during extraction. Malolactic fermentation takes place in wood. This is followed by aging in French oak barrels and Slavonian oak casks for 12–18 months, completed by 24–36 months in bottle, to harmonize structure and tannic texture.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it appears intense ruby red. The nose presents notes of mulberry and wisteria, followed by hints of bergamot and pink pepper, with a balsamic accent. The palate is dry and complex, with elegant tannins and a long finish in which spicy elements and dark fruit return.
Food pairings
Its structure makes it suitable for flavorful dishes: it pairs well with grilled red meats, where succulence meets tannic grip, and with aged cheeses that highlight its persistence. This is a red made for the table, when intensity and continuity of flavor are sought.
When to serve it
It’s a wine to open at lunches and dinners with substantial dishes, but also to sip slowly to appreciate its complexity. A little oxygenation in the glass helps to expand aromas and relax the tannin, making the evolution of each taste more enjoyable. Its dry profile and long aging period underline its ability to reveal itself gradually.
