Description
What kind of wine is it?
Terre Siciliane Hierà by Hauner is a red wine made from Calabrese, Alicante, and Nocera grapes grown in the Aeolian Islands, Sicily. Vinification involves controlled-temperature fermentation with skin maceration, followed by aging in barrique for 6 months and a further 3 months in bottle. The result is a harmonious and velvety red, with a fruity profile offering woody notes, soft tannins, and a savory finish that keeps the tasting experience balanced and smooth.
Where does it come from?
Hierà comes from vineyards located in the territory of the Aeolian Islands, an archipelago in the Tyrrhenian Sea, and ties its identity to the island of Vulcano. The name recalls the ancient designation of the island, traditionally associated with Hephaestus. The wine is dedicated to James Stevenson, a cultured Scottish man remembered as the first to plant vines on the island, a key element in the local history of the Hauner project.
How is it produced?
The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand around mid-September. Fermentation takes place with skin maceration at controlled temperature, to enhance the extraction of color and structure without losing aromatic precision. After fermentation, the wine ages in barrique for 6 months, followed by a 3-month rest in bottle before release, allowing fruit, tannin, and woody notes to integrate.
Tasting notes
Intense ruby red color to the eye. On the nose, there are aromas of red fruits, followed by hints of tobacco and cocoa in line with wood aging. In the mouth it is harmonious and velvety, with pleasantly sweet tannins; the progression is even and the finish is savory, leaving a clean and persistent sensation.
Food pairings
It pairs well with first courses with meat ragout and risottos, where its velvety texture and savory finish support the rich component. On the table, it also goes well with stews and game, accompanying slow-cooked dishes and intensely flavored meats. Recommended pairings remain with structured dishes capable of enhancing both fruit and tannin.
When to serve it
It is best enjoyed when you want a balanced red, suitable for both everyday meals and richer dishes. The overall aging process in barrique and bottle makes it ready for consumption at the time of release, with an already integrated profile highlighting fruit as well as cocoa and tobacco notes. It is a consistent choice during seasons when ragouts, risottos, stews, and game are served.
