Description

What type of wine it is

Rosso di Montalcino by Voliero is a Tuscan wine made exclusively from Sangiovese grapes, reflecting Andrea Cortonesi's experience and agricultural vision. This red stands out for its precise and balanced style, characterized by fine tannins and a pleasant freshness that makes every sip smooth and enjoyable. Its defined structure and careful maturation prepare the way for a regional aromatic profile, expressing at its best the nuances of the Ilcinese hills.

Where it comes from

The vineyards are located in the renowned area of Castelnuovo dell’Abate, on the slope facing the ancient volcano of Monte Amiata. The vines grow at varying altitudes, between 150, 250, and 350 meters above sea level, allowing optimum control of grape ripening. The clay and sandy soils, enriched by a strong presence of loose stones, promote optimal drainage and give the wine a clear and distinctive flavor signature, deeply linked to the vocation of this land.

How it is made

The vinification of the Sangiovese takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks, where maceration on the skins for several days is designed to extract color and phenolic components in a balanced way. Subsequently, the wine matures for several months in large Slavonian and French oak barrels, a key step to integrate the tannic structure and preserve the original fruit. The process ends with a further bottle aging of at least four months, stabilizing the wine and ensuring a harmonious drinking experience.

Tasting notes

In the glass, the wine shows an ruby red hue, reflecting its youthful and regional style. The nose reveals a clean floral bouquet, enriched by clear cherry aromas and a well-defined spicy note that invites tasting. On the palate, the sip moves linear and precise, well supported by refined tannins and leading to a fresh finish that emphasizes overall balance and drinkability.

Food pairings

At the table, this red pairs beautifully with classic cured meat appetizers, where its fresh character perfectly balances the natural richness of the dishes. It also pairs well with grilled meats, as its structure enhances the intense flavors and juiciness of barbecued dishes. Perfect with a rare steak, the wine accompanies the dish without ever overpowering its flavors, while keeping its own spicy and fruity character intact.

When to serve it

This Rosso di Montalcino is the ideal choice when looking for a pairing with a charcuterie board or a meat dish that requires agility and the right body. The balance achieved thanks to maturation in wood and bottle aging makes it immediately harmonious and offers excellent drinkability. Bringing it to the table during social occasions allows one to best appreciate the freshness of the fruit and its dynamic, satisfying flavor progression.
