Description
What kind of wine is it
Valpolicella Superiore I Saltari is a red wine produced by Sartori di Verona. It stands out for its solid structure, well-defined tannic texture, and a lingering taste that reflects careful cellar work. The ageing in barrels of various sizes and barriques lends a complex profile, achieving balance between freshness and depth. This style is suited both for immediate enjoyment and moderate ageing.
Where it comes from
The I Saltari vineyard is located in the hamlet of Turano, on the Verona hills, at an altitude between 150 and 200 metres. The hillside position provides ideal conditions for grape growing.
How it is made
Harvesting takes place in three stages according to ripeness, from ripe to slightly overripe clusters. Each selection is vinified separately and the wine ages for 12-18 months in barrels of varying sizes and barriques, followed by 6 months of bottle refinement. This process contributes to aromatic complexity and structure.
Tasting notes
In the glass, the wine shows an intense ruby red colour. The bouquet reveals notes of blackcurrant, cinnamon, clove, and liquorice. On the palate, it is consistent and persistent, with integrated tannins and a minerality that supports its freshness. The acidity is balanced and accompanies a long, savoury finish, delivering a harmonious and complete tasting experience.
Recommended pairings
Valpolicella Superiore I Saltari pairs well with game dishes, roasts, and grilled red meats.
When to serve it
It is recommended to serve this wine at the appropriate temperature in large tulip-shaped glasses to enhance its aromas and structure. It can evolve positively with some years of cellaring, developing more complex scents.
