Description

The Refosco Cate of Villa de Puppi was born in vineyards on the hills of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

It is produced entirely with Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso grapes, the most powerful and full-bodied among the autochthonous Friulian vines. The grapes are harvested late and selected both in the vineyard and in the cellar, in order to choose only the best bunches. The fermentation takes place initially together with a maceration on the skins in steel tanks at controlled temperature and then in French oak barriques. The wine ages for 12 months in wood and for another 5 months in bottle, before being released on the market.

The Cate has a very intense, impenetrable ruby red color. The nose opens with an elegant and complex bouquet of red fruits and blackberries, enriched with notes of undergrowth, harmoniously integrated with nuances of spices and leather and a finish of vanilla and cream. In the mouth it is very full-bodied, powerful and elegant, with clear notes of licorice and raspberry. The tannic structure is large, with soft tannins enriched with evident hints of ripe fruit and spices. Overall it is a wine with a strong but harmonious acidity, balanced, with a pleasant and persistent finish.

Ideal to accompany red and roasted meats, it is excellent in combination with aged cheeses.
