Description
The Chardonnay Gravel Road by Roco originates in the Willamette Valley, Oregon, from a blend of three of the finest Chardonnay vineyards sourced from: Knudsen, Marsh Estate, and Wits' End, the latter owned by the winery. It is the result of over thirty years of experience by Rollin Soles, founder and winemaker, and the shared vision with his wife Corby. The wine reflects the richness and complexity of the region's terroir, characterized by a maritime climate and sedimentary and basaltic soils.
The grapes, hand-selected and chilled overnight, are whole cluster pressed and the decanted must is then transferred to French oak barrels for fermentation, with a new wood percentage varying between 5% and 20%. After alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation follows to balance the acidity and provide greater roundness. The wine matures on fine lees until bottling, scheduled for the summer following the harvest.
The aromatic profile is complex and refined, with notes of caramelized pear, ripe apple, and apricot blending with hints of melon, yellow plum, and vanilla spices. On the palate, prominent mineral freshness and fruit richness lead to a long and harmonious finish.
Excellent pairing with pizzas with intense flavors, tasty risottos, or white meats with aromatic sides.
