Ama is a small village, a jewel of medieval origins located on the hills between Gaiole and Radda in Chianti, in the heart of the Chianti Classico . In these places, at the end of the 12th century, a local noble family settled, to which the construction of the Castle is attributed, then destroyed at the end of the Middle Ages. The Castello di Ama winery was founded in 1972 by four families of different origins and still today the descendant of one of these families, of Roman origin, leads the company.
Castello di Ama produces almost exclusively red wine, and is famous above all for L'Apparita, the progenitor of pure Tuscan Merlot wines and which since 1985, the year of its debut, has become an important cult wine. The Great Selection of Chianti Classico Castello di Ama Vigneto Bellavista is also of the highest level, which is among the oldest of the Chianti Classico and has been produced since 1978 with Sangiovese grapes (about 80%) with the complement of Malvasia Nera only in very few bottles. in extraordinary years. The other Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, the San Lorenzo and the La Casuccia come from the homonymous vineyards, and complete the range of the numerous Chiantis, also enriched by a tantalizing rosé, the inevitable Vin Santo del Chianti Classico and a very interesting grappa.
