Two Hands
Two Hands Wines is an Australian winery in the Barossa Valley, conceived in September 1999 by Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz, an idea that took shape during an engagement party. The goal was clear from the outset: to produce the finest possible Shiraz-based wines from Australia’s most prized winegrowing regions, showcasing the character of each region and every single vineyard.
The first harvest dates back to 2000, with an initial investment of $30,000 and 17 tonnes of grapes. Since then, the winery has grown rapidly: in 2002 it acquired Kraehe House in Marananga, where in December 2003 they opened the Cellar Door and the Bakehouse Cellar, and the Coach House vineyard in Greenock. In 2005, five acres of Shiraz were planted next to the winery, and in 2007 part of the Holy Grail site on Seppeltsfield Road was acquired.
The range is built around Shiraz. The Garden Series brings together six Shiraz wines dedicated to the founders’ family members, such as Lily's Garden, while the Single Vineyard Series, launched in 2005 with Zippy's Block Shiraz, tells the story of the individual vineyards. From the “The Clos” block of the Holy Grail site comes Invenienda Shiraz.
Among the accolades, in November 2012 Two Hands entered Wine Spectator’s Top 100 for the tenth year in a row. Today the winery is owned by Michael Twelftree together with Pierre-Henri Morel, General Manager since 2014.
Passion, a quest for quality, and a love of Shiraz have guided Two Hands Wines from the heart of the Barossa Valley.
