Cantina Gallura is a cooperative winery based in Tempio Pausania, in northern Sardinia, at the foot of the Limbara massif. Its roots lie in the centuries-old tradition of the winegrowers of upper Gallura, already renowned in the nineteenth century, and since 1956 its finest wines have been marked by the rooster from the Pisan coat of arms of the Visconti. The members cultivate a heritage of native grape varieties such as Vermentino, Cannonau, Moscato, Pascale and Caricagiola, together with Nebbiolo, which arrived in Gallura from Piedmont in the eighteenth century. The absolute protagonist is Vermentino di Gallura, the only Sardinian wine to boast DOCG status, obtained in 1996, appreciated for its salinity and minerality. In the cellar, rigorous selection of the grapes is combined with modern winemaking techniques and aging in cask or barrique. Among the most award-winning labels nationally and internationally are the Vermentino Canayli, Genesi, Piras, Gemellae and Mavriana, and the Nebbiolo-based wines Karana, Dolmen and Luna Nova. Whites, reds, rosés, sparkling wines and wines from overripe grapes make up a broad, high-quality range that makes Cantina Gallura a benchmark for Vermentino di Gallura and for Sardinian wine.
