Cabernet Sauvignon - A Bordeaux grape variety around the world

Cabernet Sauvignon is a grape variety originating from Bordeaux that has spread around the world over time thanks to its unique properties and gustatory qualities.
A black-skinned grape that produces deeply coloured wines, rich in tannins and with enveloping aromas. Typical of this variety are notes of black fruits, wild berries, sour cherry and blackcurrant, often accompanied by herbal nuances. Wooden barrels are often used for the ageing process of premium wines produced from these grapes, softening the astringency of the tannins and adding characteristic oak aromas (vanilla, coffee, toasted notes, cedar). This wine is a symbol of quality, elegance and opulence, a wine capable of challenging the years thanks to its excellent ageing potential.

Cabernet Sauvignon requires a moderately warm climate to fully ripen, which is why Bordeaux is particularly suited to being its homeland, especially in the areas of Médoc and Graves-Saint-Amant. Another home of this variety is Tuscany, particularly the area where, at the end of the 1960s, the Supertuscan originated, most notably the famous Sassicaia, in the area of Bolgheri.
Other areas that have proven particularly favourable for the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon can be found in California where, in Napa Valley, famous crus such as Rutherford and Oakvalley and, in Sonoma, Alexander Valley, Cabernet Sauvignons are renowned for their refined prestige. Suitable regions are found all over the world where the climate permits its complex cultivation, such as in Australia, New Zealand, South America (especially in Chile and Argentina), and South Africa.
