Description
What kind of wine is it
The Vorberg Pinot Bianco Riserva by Cantina Terlano is a white wine made entirely from Pinot Blanc grapes. It shows a bright straw-yellow color with greenish highlights. Its style is substantial and very complex, with a distinctly mineral character and a compact structure.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from Alto Adige, on the southern slope of the Monzoccolo, in the Terlano area. These are steep, sunny vineyards, facing south and southwest, at an altitude between 450 and 650 meters. The soil is dominated by quartz porphyry of volcanic origin, with light, poor, sandy and clayey soils. These conditions naturally limit yields and produce saline wines with tension and depth.
How it is made
Harvesting and grape selection are by hand. This is followed by a gentle whole-cluster pressing and clarification by natural settling. Fermentation is slow and temperature-controlled, in large oak casks. In the wooden casks the wine also undergoes malolactic fermentation and ages for 12 months on fine lees.
Tasting notes
On appearance it is a bright straw yellow with greenish reflections. The bouquet is varied and multifaceted, with notes of ripe fruit such as melon, white peach, pear and Golden Delicious apple. Added to this are quince jelly, chamomile and pineapple, with mineral notes of flint. On the palate the fruit component melds with aromatic and saline elements. The compact structure has an elegant creaminess and closes with an aromatic, persistent and distinctly mineral aftertaste.
What to pair it with
It is ideal with spicy fish soup, peppered mussels and seafood spaghetti. It also pairs well with gratinated mussels, grilled cuttlefish and Arctic char. It accompanies Roman-style artichokes, usually difficult to match, and aged cheeses such as mature pecorino or Parmigiano with mostarda.
When to serve it
This is a white suited to seafood lunches and dinners and to tables with flavorful and spicy dishes. Serve it in a Burgundy glass, wide enough to let the aromas emerge. It has an excellent aging potential, over 10 years. It can be stored in the cellar, in a cool place, at a constant temperature and away from light.
