Description

What kind of wine it is

The Barolo Bussia by Simone Scaletta is a still red wine made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes. This authentic expression of the Langhe stands out for its structured and elegant profile, capable of evolving gracefully over the years. The tannic texture is refined and is accompanied by marked acidity that supports the sip from the very first taste. The careful production process ends with unfiltered bottling, a choice that preserves the full identity and character typical of its Piedmontese origin.

Where it comes from

This Piedmontese red originates from the renowned Bussia vineyard area, located in the hilly district of Monforte d’Alba. The vineyards benefit from an ideal southern exposure, a key factor that ensures consistent ripening of the clusters and excellent aging potential. The soils are complex, characterized by a deep mixture of clay, silt, and sand. These specific terroir conditions help to give the wine a distinctly clear aromatic profile, providing outstanding finesse and a profound connection to its land of origin.

How it is produced

Vinification begins with skin maceration in temperature-controlled vats for about seven days, followed by alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel to ensure perfect aromatic purity. Subsequent malolactic fermentation takes place in oak barrels at a steady temperature for two months, helping the wine achieve full structural harmony. Aging continues in wooden casks for around thirty months in total, further enriching the wine’s character. After decanting in steel, final bottle aging completes this long maturation process.

Tasting notes

In the glass, it reveals an intense red color enlivened by evident garnet reflections. The aromatic bouquet opens with fresh scents of small red fruits, undergrowth hints, and clear notes of dried rose, then evolves towards intense balsamic and spicy notes. The palate is rich and deep, guided by fine tannins and marked acidity, keeping the taste tense and well-defined. Thanks to its remarkable structure, the tasting experience closes with a balanced and persistent finish, true to the character of great reds from its area of origin.

Food Pairing

The tannic richness and vibrant freshness of this Barolo make it the ideal companion for red meat dishes, roasts, and succulent preparations. It pairs perfectly with traditional Piedmontese braised meats, a classic choice to highlight the spicy aromas of the meat. The pairing is equally effective with aged cheeses, which enhance the structural complexity and depth of flavor. At the table, it flawlessly supports hearty and well-seasoned dishes, offering a dining experience that is both balanced and intense.

When to serve it

This is the perfect choice for special occasions and flavor-packed menus, and is particularly suited for the cooler months of the year. Its age-worthiness and solid tannic structure allow it to be enjoyed both in its youth for its innate precision, and after prolonged cellaring. Over time, the aromatic components meld and the taste acquires extra harmony. Ensuring the proper serving temperature allows you to fully appreciate the varietal’s elegance and its distinctive terroir traits.
