Description
The Barolo Castelletto by Fortemasso comes from vineyards on steep slopes in Monforte d'Alba, Piedmont, at an altitude ranging from 360 to 450 meters above sea level. The soil, composed of sand, silt, and clay, imparts complexity and elegance to the wine, which best expresses the peculiarities of the Castelletto subzone.
After traditional vinification with long submerged cap maceration for 25-30 days, the wine completes malolactic fermentation and is refined for about 30 months in wood, followed by an additional 8-10 months in the bottle before commercialization.
In the glass, it is bright ruby red with orange reflections. The bouquet is delicate and elegant, with hints of violet, spices, and licorice. The taste is full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and a long, complex finish leaving a pleasant note of licorice.
It pairs well with structured dishes such as braised meats, game, and aged cheeses.
