Description

What kind of wine it is

Barolo Mirau by Negretti is a red wine made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes grown in La Morra, at the heart of the Langhe region. This Barolo stands out for its structure and elegant profile, with densely packed tannins and a good capacity for aging. The long maceration on the skins in stainless steel and wood aging contribute to precise aromatic complexity, and the wine maintains intensity with a persistent finish. Ideal for those seeking a wine that combines origin, careful cellar work, and versatility with food pairings.

Origin

The grapes come from the Additional Geographical Mention Bettolotti in La Morra, from vineyards facing southeast at elevations between 230 and 270 meters. The hilly climate of the Langhe, with notable temperature variations, promotes the development of aromas and supports the freshness of Nebbiolo. The marl soils, with calcareous and sandy components, impart tannic finesse and a complex aromatic texture to the wine. La Morra is renowned for producing Barolo with an elegant character, capable of combining structure and detail.

Production

The harvest is followed by destemming and alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel at controlled temperatures between 27 and 31 °C, with maceration on the skins for 25–30 days. This process allows for targeted extraction of color and aromas and builds body without stiffening the profile. After fermentation, spontaneous malolactic fermentation occurs, harmonizing the texture. The 24-month aging in Swiss oak barrels integrates the tannins, increases complexity, and ensures longevity and depth.

Tasting notes

To the eye, Barolo Mirau displays a garnet color with violet hues that evolve towards amber. The bouquet is intense and layered, with notes of turmeric, black licorice, sandalwood, exotic spices, and dark berries. On the palate, ripe plum, oriental spices, and a balsamic finish reminiscent of incense come through. The tannic texture is significant but balanced by freshness, and the persistence confirms a solid, clean structure.

Food pairings

This Barolo pairs easily with red meats, roasts, and slow-cooked dishes, where its structure and tannins cleanse the palate and support succulence. It is a great match for braised meats, game such as wild boar or roe deer, and aged hard cheeses. Among regional dishes, it is classically paired with Barolo-braised beef and also works with beef stew or herb-roasted lamb. The spicy component enhances rich sauces and reductions, maintaining balance and precision.

When to serve

Barolo Mirau is ideal for important occasions and structured meals. It accompanies intense dishes without losing elegance. Serve at around 18 °C, after decanting to let the bouquet open up and the tannic structure to soften. The wine can be enjoyed immediately for its definition and clarity but reaches its maximum complexity after a few years of cellar aging. Under optimal conditions, it maintains quality and depth over time and offers a broad, satisfying drinking window.
