Description
What kind of wine is it
Barolo Monvigliero by Vietti is a red wine made exclusively from Nebbiolo grown in the Monvigliero cru, located in Verduno, within the Barolo area in Piedmont. It offers an elegant and harmonious profile, with silky tannins and good persistence, more focused on finesse than power. Vinification takes place in steel tanks with skin maceration and a portion of whole clusters; malolactic fermentation occurs in wood and aging continues in oak barrels, resulting in a structured and complex style.
Where does it come from
The grapes come from the Monvigliero cru, considered the most prestigious in Verduno and among the most important in the Barolo area. The vineyards have an average age of 65 years and sit at about 240 meters above sea level, facing south/southwest. The soils are silty with the presence of Sant’Agata Marls, elements that guide Nebbiolo's expression toward a precise aromatic profile and great depth of flavor.
How is it produced
After harvesting, Nebbiolo undergoes a cold pre-fermentation maceration followed by an alcoholic fermentation of around 20 days in steel tanks. The must remains in contact with the skins with regular pump-overs, and part of the grapes are vinified with whole clusters. Malolactic fermentation takes place in wood, and aging continues for about 24 months in oak barrels to integrate aromas and tannic structure.
Tasting notes
It displays a delicate yet deep ruby red color. The nose is refined, with hints of ripe red fruits, wild strawberry, and rose, followed by subtle cocoa notes. On the palate, it is elegant and harmonious, with silky tannins and continuous progression towards a lingering finish, supported by fresh spicy nuances that complete its profile.
Food pairings
It pairs naturally with game, red meats, and aged cheeses, thanks to its persistence and well-defined tannic texture. In Piedmontese cuisine, it accompanies structured dishes like Barolo braised beef and stewed game dishes. The floral component and spicy notes also make it suitable for roasts and flavorful cuts of meat, always maintaining a balanced character.
When to serve it
This is a Barolo to bring to the table when finesse and complexity are sought, particularly for structured lunches and dinners. Its tannic structure and aging in oak barrels suggest a good evolution potential, with the possibility for further integration over time. It is ideal after a suitable period of rest or to be cellared to follow the development of its aromatic profile and character, enhancing its persistence and spicy freshness.
