Description
Born at the end of the 19th century, the Cappellano winery has spanned the centuries remaining faithful to the most ancient traditions of the Langhe. Now in its fifth generation, it manages a few hectares of vineyards with which it produces a limited number of bottles, highly sought after by enthusiasts.
Pié Franco was born from the desire to go back in time. In the mid-1980s, in the famous cru Gabutti di Serralunga d'Alba, Cappellano planted a vineyard ungrafted, as was customary before the advent of phylloxera. It seemed like a crazy idea doomed to failure, but the vineyard has survived and produces excellent quality grapes. At the end of fermentation, the wine ages for a period of at least 18 months in large barrels and completes the refinement period in the bottle.
In the most classic style of the great Gabutti wines, it is a structured and deep Barolo, characterized by a garnet color and complex aromas of currant, cherry, spices, humus, cocoa and licorice. The tannic texture is dense, well integrated with an important sip, which accompanies towards a very persistent finish.
To be paired with stews and braised in red wine.
