Description
What kind of wine is it
Barolo Castelletto Riserva by Fortemasso is a structured red from Piedmont, made from Nebbiolo grapes. The vinification process is aimed at enhancing the Nebbiolo's structure and longevity, with an extended submerged cap maceration that results in mature and well-integrated tannins. Ageing in wood followed by time in the bottle adds depth and significant aging potential.
Where does it come from
This Barolo originates from Monforte d’Alba, in the Castelletto area, at an altitude between 360 and 450 meters. The Diano sandstone soils, rich in stones and well-drained, promote balanced phenolic ripening. The hilly terrain helps develop complex aromas. The area’s winemaking tradition and careful agronomic work contribute to wines of solid structure and long life.
How it is produced
The grapes undergo submerged cap maceration for 30-45 days and are aged in wood for about 40 months, followed by 22 months in bottle. This process grants aromatic complexity and harmony at every tasting stage.
Tasting notes
Visually, it shows a bright ruby red color with orange highlights, indicating evolving potential. On the nose, notes of wilted rose and violet emerge, followed by sweet spices like cinnamon, with hints of licorice and tobacco. The palate is enveloping, with silky tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, spicy finish recalling ripe red fruit and mineral nuances.
Food pairings
Barolo Castelletto Riserva pairs well with robust red meat dishes, such as braised or stewed game. Also excellent with aged cheeses that enhance its aromatic profile.
When to serve
This Barolo offers significant aging potential due to its long maturation; it is best enjoyed on special occasions or during contemplative tastings, with an aromatic profile that continues to evolve.
