Description
What type of wine it is
Barolo Rocche dell’Annunziata Riserva by Accomasso is a still red wine made from Nebbiolo grapes grown in La Morra, in the heart of the Langhe. The cru expresses an elegant and structured profile, with prominent acidity and tannins that support a long evolution in the bottle. Vinification follows traditional techniques with spontaneous fermentations, prolonged macerations and extensive aging in large barrels. These steps define a complex style that is true to the terroir.
Origin
This wine is produced in the Annunziata hamlet, in the municipality of La Morra, within the Barolo area. The Rocche dell’Annunziata cru features ideal exposures and clay soils, capable of offering structure and refined tannins. The location within a historical area contributes to the production of Nebbiolo with great character, suitable for long-lasting Riserva versions.
How it is made
The grapes come from vineyards around forty years old, harvested at full phenolic ripeness. Fermentation uses indigenous yeasts and maceration on the skins is extended to gradually extract color, tannins and noble substances. The wine ages for at least 66 months in large wooden barrels, developing complexity and natural stability. This is followed by a long rest in the bottle, which harmonizes the tannic texture and consolidates balance before release to the market.
Tasting notes
Barolo Rocche dell’Annunziata Riserva shows bright garnet color with orange highlights, a sign of prolonged aging. The bouquet is complex and layered, with hints of cherry preserve, wild berries, dried violet, leather, tobacco, licorice and sweet spices, with mineral nuances. On the palate, it is dry, full and structured, with lively acidity and tannins polished by aging. The finish is long and spicy, evolving consistently over time.
Pairings
This Barolo pairs perfectly with rich and intense dishes such as braised meats, game and aged cheeses, where structure and tannin enhance succulence and aromatic complexity. In Piedmontese cuisine, it is excellent with braised beef in Barolo or tajarin pasta with Alba white truffle, supporting the richness of the sauce. It is also suitable with hare stew or slow-cooked beef cheek, thanks to its spiciness and freshness, which cleanse the palate and prolong the finish.
When to serve it
This is a noble red wine for special occasions, festive lunches or dinners with braised meats. Serve at about 18°C in large glasses to encourage the bouquet to open. Decanting is recommended after many years of aging to separate any sediment and improve aeration. Its long maturation and the quality of the cru allow immediate enjoyment, but the wine gives its best after further bottle aging and can evolve for many years, with a balance between freshness, tannin and aromatic complexity.
