Description
What kind of wine it is
Il Seggio di Poggio al Tesoro is a Bolgheri red made from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot grown in Tuscany. It stands out for its full-bodied and structured style, with an elegant profile and good aging potential. After vinification, the wine ages for fifteen months in French oak barriques, gaining a rich body and a well-defined tannic texture.
Where it comes from
The vineyards are located in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci, along the Tuscan coast, in an area with a Mediterranean climate influenced by the Tyrrhenian Sea. Temperature shifts favor balanced grape ripening. The Bolgheri area, crossed by the Seggio river, is renowned for producing high-quality reds.
How it is made
The grapes come from estate-owned vineyards in Castagneto Carducci. After harvest, the wine is produced following winemaking practices that enhance the varietal characteristics of the grapes. The aging continues for fifteen months in French oak barriques, where the wine develops structure and complexity.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it displays an intense ruby red color with garnet highlights. The nose reveals aromas of blueberry and black cherry, with mineral hints and spices like black pepper and licorice. On the palate it offers a full body, soft tannins, and a balance between acidity and structure. The finish is clean and persistent, with a progression that combines juicy fruit notes and minerality.
Food pairings
Il Seggio pairs well with roasted red meats, braised dishes, and game such as stewed wild boar. It is also ideal with cacciucco alla livornese or game ragù. For a traditional pairing, we recommend pappardelle with wild boar ragù or a Florentine steak. These dishes enhance the wine's fruity and spicy notes, balanced by its tannic texture.
When to serve
After aging in barrique, the wine shows aging potential and complexity. Serve at room temperature, possibly opening the bottle in advance to allow it to breathe.
