Description

The Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia comes to life from the best terroirs of Bolgheri, a renowned wine-producing area known for producing exceptional red wines. This wine bears the name of the renowned Ornellaia estate, where utmost care and passion are poured into it.

Ornellaia is a cuvée composed of a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc grapes, vinified with cutting-edge techniques and aged in barriques to ensure maximum quality and longevity. The result is a wine that best expresses the character of the territory and the varieties used.

The 2022 Vintage

The 2022 vintage in Bolgheri was marked by a long period of heat and drought, lasting about 75 days, but with precipitation due to typical summer thunderstorms that unlocked the situation.
Harvesting was done manually in 15 kg crates, with double sorting of the bunches before and after destemming, followed by gentle crushing. Alcoholic fermentation took place in stainless steel and cement vats at temperatures between 26 and 30°C, with maceration of about 15 days. After the malolactic fermentation, predominantly in oak barriques, the wine was aged for about 18 months in barriques, with blending halfway through, and a further 12 months in the bottle before being marketed.

On the nose, it opens with intense aromas of ripe dark fruits, enriched by notes of vanilla and tobacco. On the palate, it presents a broad and decisive attack, supported by a powerful yet balanced tannic structure, leading to a long and savory finish. Elegance and freshness remain predominant, even in hotter vintages.
It pairs perfectly with structured dishes such as grilled red meats, game, and aged cheeses.

The Determination

As part of the Vendemmia d'Artista project, the Cameroonian artist Pascale Marthine Tayou interpreted the character "The Determination" with a design of colorful concentric circles for the 750 ml labels, a symbol of the energy born from the harmonious union of different elements. Additionally, the artist designed this label as a limited edition.
