Description

What type of wine is it?

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2018 Biondi-Santi Tenuta Greppo is an expression of vision and stylistic consistency, capable of transforming a cool vintage into a wine of extraordinary finesse. Made exclusively from Sangiovese Grosso, it is dedicated to the unforgettable Franco Biondi-Santi, the gentleman of Brunello, and embodies his elegance, restraint, and depth. It stands out for its balanced structure, refined texture, and a vertical tasting progression, designed to evolve gracefully over time.

Where does it come from?

The 2018 Riserva was produced exclusively with a selection of grapes from estate-owned vineyards, including the oldest ones of the estate. The vintage was on the cooler side and characterized by abundant rainfall throughout the entire growing cycle, with a summer of below-average temperatures. A few days of north wind before the harvest encouraged drying of the clusters in the higher and cooler areas; the harvest began on September 16 and lasted eight days, with several passes and strict selections in the vineyard.

How is it produced?

The 2018 Riserva was vinified in Slavonian oak casks and cement tanks, using only native yeasts from the estate's vineyards. The wine was then aged for 3 years in Slavonian oak casks, allowing for slow maturation and harmonious integration of structural components, preserving finesse and balance.

Tasting notes

It presents a brilliant ruby red color, of great transparency. The nose is seductive and layered, with notes of red berries, violet, forest floor, and oriental spices that gradually emerge in the glass. On the palate, it reveals depth and several layers of flavor: raspberry compote, orange zest, licorice, black tea, and tobacco intertwine in a refined fabric, supported by fresh acidity that imparts energy and vertical intensity, outlining a wine with intangible charm.

Food pairings

It pairs with substantial meat dishes, such as braised meats, roasts, and game, and finds harmony with rich first courses and long-aged mature cheeses, thanks to its finesse and aromatic depth.

When to serve it

This is a wine to reserve for special occasions and mindful tastings, served at 16–18 °C in large stemmed glasses to enhance its aromatic evolution. The freshness and structure of the 2018 vintage support long aging potential in the bottle, able to express further complexity over the years.
