Description
What kind of wine it is
Brunello di Montalcino by Castello Romitorio is a still red wine made from Sangiovese grapes grown in the municipality of Montalcino, Tuscany. It displays a full and elegant style, with ripe tannins and a well-defined acidity, making it suitable for long aging. Vinification in steel with skin maceration and prolonged aging in oak barrels give it precise structure and a profile that enhances its origin and craftsmanship.
Where it comes from
This wine comes from old vines in the heart of the municipality of Montalcino. The grapes are selected from different plots, each expressing the character of Montalcino’s terroir. Particular attention to origin brings out the subtleties that define this area.
How it is produced
The Sangiovese grapes are hand-picked and each plot is vinified separately to preserve their unique identity. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, with a short cold soak on the skins followed by temperature-controlled maceration for up to 24 days to extract color and structure. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures in oak barrels for about 36 months and refines in the bottle for 24 months before release.
Tasting notes
It presents an intense ruby red colour, with good consistency and the transparency typical of Sangiovese aged in wood. The bouquet is clear and fresh, with aromas of ripe red fruits, hints of sweet spices and mineral nuances that grow with aeration. On the palate, it is persistent and well-balanced, with polished tannins, balanced acidity and a long finish of fruity and spicy notes. Its structure and maturation support a precise and harmonious evolution.
Food pairings
Its tannic texture and persistence make it an excellent match for red meats and robust dishes. It pairs well with game, mushroom-based recipes and aged cheeses. It is also ideal as a meditation wine at the end of the meal. In regional cuisine, it shines alongside local game dishes. Its balanced acidity also makes it suitable for braised meats and roasts with aromatic herbs.
When to serve
This Brunello is a great choice for important occasions, festive lunches or dinners with intense dishes, as well as dedicated tastings. After proper aeration, it opens up in aroma and tannic structure. Its build and long maturation allow cellaring and enjoyment over time, with a wide drinking window rewarding patience. If consumed young, decanting and careful service enhance its balance.
