Description
What kind of wine is it?
La Closerie Grand Cru Extra Brut is a blended Champagne made with Chardonnay from Mesnil-sur-Oger and Pinot Noir from Puisieulx, villages classified as Grand Cru. This white displays an elegant and structured style, lively freshness and full body. Fermentation in oak barrels and ageing on the lees following the Traditional Method enhance complexity and depth, and the wine offers a profile suitable for moderate ageing.
Where does it come from?
La Closerie is born in the villages of Mesnil-sur-Oger and Puisieulx, recognized as Grand Cru in the heart of Champagne. The limestone terroir of Mesnil-sur-Oger gives the Chardonnay a distinct minerality and great purity, while the clay-limestone soils of Puisieulx provide the Pinot Noir with structure and intense color. The cool climate with significant temperature variations encourages slow ripening and preserves acidity and varietal aromas.
How is it produced?
Only the best grape clusters are selected. The must ferments in oak barrels and develops complex aromatic profiles. The wine rests on the lees for at least 30 months following the Traditional Method, with an Extra Brut dosage that preserves the authenticity of its character. The artisanal approach involves minimal intervention.
Tasting notes
In the glass, La Closerie Grand Cru Extra Brut features a fine, persistent perlage and a straw yellow color with golden highlights. The nose reveals white-fleshed fruit, bread crust, butter, light toasted notes and a nearly saline minerality. On the palate it stands out for its enveloping structure, delicate bubbles, balanced freshness and creaminess. The finish is long, with a smoky note and a hint of citrus that brings liveliness.
Food pairings
This Champagne pairs with refined fish dishes, such as raw oysters and langoustines, or shellfish with clarified butter. It also matches well with white meats like roast chicken with herb sauce and seafood risottos. A regional pairing is trout fillet "à la Champagne", while among Italian specialties it is convincing with vitello tonnato for a refined contrast of flavors.
When to serve it
La Closerie Grand Cru Extra Brut should be served at a cool serving temperature to highlight its effervescence and complexity. It is suited as an aperitif on special occasions and allows for moderate ageing in the cellar. Thanks to its acid structure and layered aromatic profile, it is suitable for celebrations, gourmet dinners and offers versatility and character in any context.
