Description
What type of wine it is
Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Les Mazoyères by Domaine de la Vougeraie is a red Burgundy made from Pinot Noir grapes grown on a small plot. Its profile skilfully combines elegance and power, revealing a deep structure. Partial whole-cluster fermentation and targeted ageing in wooden barrels shape a well-defined character, true to the identity of the Grand Cru.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from a Burgundy vineyard managed by Domaine de la Vougeraie. The mid-slope plot enjoys excellent eastern exposure, ideal for perfect ripening of the Pinot Noir grapes. The roots of century-old vines grow in clay-loam soils with dense planting. The vineyard is managed using biodynamic agriculture, a choice that ensures great care for the ecosystem.
How it's produced
The processing of the Pinot Noir grapes includes the use of a small proportion of whole clusters. The must undergoes targeted cold maceration before fermentation begins, carefully preserving the primary aromatic nuances. Prolonged contact with the skins imparts body to the wine. Subsequently, the wine ages for sixteen months in wooden barrels.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it displays a shade in line with typical Pinot Noir from the region. The bouquet stands out for its depth, offering clear aromas of wild berries intertwined with subtle toasted and spicy notes. On the palate, it shows a balanced texture that skilfully harmonises strength and refined structure. The progression leads to a persistent finish.
Food pairings
This label shines alongside rich and flavourful red meats. Thanks to its ageing in wooden barrels, it has the vigour to support intense dishes, including braised meats and stewed game. It is a perfect match for classic French beef dishes. It also makes an excellent companion for aged cheeses.
When to serve
Reserved for special occasions, this Grand Cru deserves to enhance high-end dinners. To fully appreciate its expressive range, let it breathe beforehand to allow the woody notes to soften. It's perfect for hearty menus and is well-suited to a long cellar rest. Over time, it will reveal an even more complex aromatic profile.
