Description
What kind of wine it is
Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée from Château de la Maltroye is a still white wine from Burgundy made exclusively from Chardonnay. Vinification in stainless steel and ageing in barrique aim to deliver a precise yet structured profile, where freshness and creaminess combine with a well-balanced use of oak.
Where it comes from
It originates in Chassagne-Montrachet, one of the most renowned areas in Burgundy for white wines. The 1er Cru designation marks La Romanée as a particularly notable parcel within the appellation, expressing aromatic clarity, tension, and depth. The vineyard is managed with sustainable practices.
How it is produced
After a gentle pneumatic pressing, alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel at controlled temperatures to preserve varietal finesse. This is followed by malolactic fermentation in barrique on the lees, with regular bâtonnage to enrich texture and complexity. Ageing continues for about a year in selected barriques, maintaining pleasant freshness.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it shows a brilliant golden colour. The nose reveals white fruits, floral notes, and hints of minerality, accompanied by subtle toasted and buttery accents from oak ageing and lees work. On the palate it is rich and smooth, with good structure and a lingering finish that closes on balance and depth.
Food pairings
It shines with dishes where the wine's structure can support delicate ingredients. Pair it with lobster bavarois, scallop carpaccio, or veal fillet with morels, thanks to the interplay of creaminess, freshness, and light toasted notes.
When to serve
Perfect for lunches and dinners with refined dishes, when you want a white wine with presence and definition. Serve it cool but not too cold, to enhance its aromas and texture. A brief aeration in the glass can help open up the fruit and oak notes. Its balance of freshness and structure makes it versatile at the table.
