Description
The Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG Riserva Ducale by Ruffino, recently awarded in the TOP 100 by Wine Spectator, is created from the vineyards of the Ruffino estates in Gretole, located in Santedame and Montemasso, within the Chianti Classico production area, between the provinces of Siena and Florence. The result of Ruffino's long-standing expertise in the appellation, it stands as one of the winery's historical symbols, first crafted in 1927 as a tribute to the Duke of Aosta, who had chosen Ruffino as wine for royal tables. The blend is predominantly Sangiovese, with added Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot to enhance complexity and structure.
Vinification involves alcoholic fermentation and a maceration of about 16 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with frequent pump-overs to encourage the extraction of aromatic and polyphenolic components. The aging process continues for a total of 24 months, part of which is in bottle before release, to ensure a harmonious evolution and greater elegance of the wine.
In the glass, it displays an intense ruby red color. The bouquet is complex, with floral notes of violet blending with fruity hints of cherry, plum, and wild berries, accompanied by spicy nuances of tobacco and clove. On the palate, it is balanced, with delicate tannins, good acidity, and a persistent structure where the varietal characteristics of Sangiovese stand out. The finish is long, elegant, and pleasantly sapid.
Ideal paired with grilled or roasted red meats.
