Description
What kind of wine it is
Cirò Bianco by Cataldo Calabretta is a white wine from Calabria, made from Greco Bianco and Malvasia. The wine is vinified and matured in stainless steel on fine lees, aiming to maintain a clear, harmonious profile, where freshness and savoriness accompany white fruit and floral notes.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from a flat vineyard located in the municipality of Melissa, in Calabria, grown on clay-limestone soils. The vines are trained using the espalier system, a choice that allows for orderly vineyard management and regular ripening of the bunches destined for this white wine.
How it's produced
Harvesting takes place manually in crates during the second decade of September, ensuring careful grape selection. The Greco Bianco is destemmed and only the free-run juice is used for vinification, while the Malvasia undergoes four days of skin maceration. After fermentation, the wines are blended and aged for six months in steel on fine lees, with regular bâtonnage.
Tasting notes
On the nose, the wine shows aromas of white peach, white flowers, and hints of chamomile and rosemary. On the palate, it is fresh and mineral, supported by good savoriness; the finish is long and harmonious, with a return of ripe white fruit.
Food pairings
It pairs easily with seafood appetizers, first courses based on fish, and second courses of fish that are not too intensely flavored. Its freshness and mineral notes accompany dishes without overpowering them, highlighting the delicacy of the meats and seasonings.
When to serve it
Suitable both as an aperitif and at the table, whenever you want a white wine with a fresh and savory profile, defined by aging in steel on fine lees. Serve well chilled, in a medium-sized glass, to best express its fruit, floral, and herbal nuances.
